Safe to say that Nole fans are truly experiencing a heart break after this weekend. One defensive play was all they needed to continue their seven game unbeaten streak against the Miami Hurricanes. The stadium was lit up, fans cheering, hype up music blaring. It was truly an incredible experience to witness everything first hand alongside the amazing student body of Florida State.

However, more often than not music in the stadium is played, that music is not a product of Florida State, rather used by the athletes and those in charge of that aspect of the game. So how does Florida State get away with using music they do not own? I can't give you a clear and simple answer to that. Permission has to be granted is one aspect or else the school itself could run into legal troubles. Some songs are remixed into a new version, but once again we are not directly owners of the music and it is not a new idea.

Other aspects within sports, especially football are the athlete's colorful jerseys, the team's mascots, one could even argue that specific chants that different sporting teams scream throughout the game. For example, Florida State's Tomahawk Chop, do we as students of Florida State have direct ownership over a simple chant followed by the up and down movement of our arm? This is when the idea of fair use gets tricky, how does one decipher between their own idea and their own twist of a previously invented concept?

One this is sure, if FSU could have a remix of this season, meaning we take the devastating results of this season thus far and make it into a new season producing different results, every fan of Florida State would concur.
